What is website layout and why is it important?
Having your website convey trust and make a great first impression is the crucial factor for a potential client to choose between your services or those of the competition. The design of your website will be what welcomes visitors so they want to stay and learn more about you, and this is achieved through proper website layout.
What is layout?
The layout of a website is the stage where the spaces and elements that the site will have, such as menus, images, buttons, videos, links, titles, and more, are structured, organized, and graphically distributed, and then a preview of how the finished site will look is created.
Color palettes, fonts, and styles are chosen so that the website design looks amazing but is also functional and achieves what we want to accomplish through a web page.
Once the site layout is approved, the project moves to programming to begin building the website.
Seen another way, the layout of a website is similar to the design process in architecture; before constructing a building, blueprints with technical data of the structure are created, and then a model or a 3D model of how the finished building will look is created.
Why is it important?
The layout stage is an essential part that we cannot omit when developing a website, although there may be those who decide not to do it.
Starting to build a website without a map of how it should be can be as disastrous as building a house without blueprints, and we can find many examples of this on the web: sites that are inconsistent with their style, unattractive, pages without correlation, and not functional at all.
Reduces up to 20% the time dedicated to the development and coding of the website.
How will it look?
The main reason why it is important to carry out the site layout before its programming is the organization of the elements and the ability to visualize how the site will be once it is published.
Unique design
This process allows you to know each element that the website really requires and thus make a good design focused on the brand's needs and above all on the user experience, as it is the stage where designers can create and define a unique style for the site.
Additionally, with a prior layout, you can know the type of programming the site requires.
User experience
The user experience or UX, for its acronym in English (user experience), is the main factor why a visitor to your site decides to stay on it and become a customer of your brand.
The site layout is of utmost importance in this aspect, as it allows you to design and redesign as many times as necessary to improve the user experience, thus the bounce rate on your website will be lower.
Modifications
Having a layout allows you to modify the site as many times as necessary to achieve the best design, without altering any code.
Workflow
Carrying out the layout helps to have a better workflow between the design and software departments, reducing up to 20% the time dedicated to the development and coding of the website.
