What are Google's algorithms?

Blu Cactus Los Algoritmos de Google Portada

Now that we are already in 2019, it should be noted that Google continues to add changes and updates within its algorithm.

But what exactly is an algorithm?

Have you ever wondered how Google chooses which results to show you first and which ones to leave until the last page? This is due to the algorithms of our search engine, which are a mathematical formula responsible for positioning millions of websites.

On August 1, 2018, a Google update was implemented, which has received the unofficial name of medical update within the SEO community. It earned this name because one of the points it focuses on is controlling pages in the health sector in general (fitness, medicine, diets… etc.) and also in the finance sector. But these are by no means the only sectors it has strongly affected.

Below we share a graph by Barry Schwartz showing the sectors most affected by this algorithm.

And the change in the core of the algorithm has been so significant that it has had very negative effects on some websites. SEO operates under a "zero-sum" system, meaning if some websites are rewarded by Google and receive more traffic, others must go down and lose it, and vice versa.

Points to highlight from this update

It should be noted that in this new algorithm update:

  1. Mobile is becoming increasingly important to Google, which is why the American giant wants all websites in its search engine to be "Accelerated Mobile Pages," meaning they allow for the fastest and smoothest navigation possible.
  2. Content is still "King" for Google's algorithm, where quality is now rewarded much more than quantity. Therefore, practices related to on-page SEO and off-page SEO should also be carried out to further improve our positioning naturally.
  3. Social networks are great allies of Google's algorithm, thanks to them it is possible to stay in closer contact with our target audience. Not to mention that thanks to advertising campaigns, it is possible to reach a much more specific audience.
  4. Security and positioning go hand in hand. From now on, Google wants, through its algorithm, to "reward" all those websites that have HTTPS protocols and certify that navigation is safe at all times.

For this reason, at Brand Industry we implement these tips as soon as possible to observe the results in the medium term.
